Orgiaglia farmhouse is situated at the gates of the Berignone – Tatti Nature Reserve, covering about 4,000 hectares in the Protected Areas of the Region of Tuscany.

 

The direct contact with this great resource regenerates the inner and physical energy, gives the pleasure to discover Nature still intact, expands its cultural heritage.

 

It is an evergreen forest of Mediterranean maquis that hosts:

  • important specimens of oak, holm oak, arbutus; mushrooms and truffles
  • rare flora species including orchids and wild lilies
  • numerous animals observable directly or by trace: roe deer, fallow deer, fox, squirrel, porcupine, badger and various birds;
  • minerals, rocks and fossils from lake deposits of the Upper Miocene.

In Volterra history has left its mark continuously from the Etruscan period until the nineteenth century, with artistic testimonies that can be admired walking through the streets of the historic center, but also visiting the city museums.

San Gimignano

San Gimignano is famous for its medieval towers that still stand out on its landscape, which earned it the nickname of Manhattan in the Middle Ages.

 

Of the 72 towers and tower-houses that existed during the golden age of the Commune, sixteen remain today. The oldest is the Rognosa Tower, 51 meters high, while the highest is the Torre del Podestà, also called Torre Grossa, 54 meters high.

Famous for its Palio which takes place in the famous Piazza del Campo. Since 1995, the old town has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
